
Iran is in mourning but also questioning how President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash, along with other top officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. The Tehran government has yet to provide a definitive cause for the crash, which occurred in a mountainous, forested region in the north, near the Azerbaijan border.
Officials have suggested the helicopter encountered poor weather conditions and heavy fog. By midday Monday, the state news agency IRNA reported the helicopter experienced a “technical malfunction,” but did not specify the nature of the problem.
