
ENFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) -An Enfield man was rushed to Baystate Hospital after accidentally shooting himself Monday night.
According to Chief Alaric Fox of the Enfield Police Department, the victim was cleaning his Smith & Wesson handgun, which he thought was unloaded.
Unfortunately, it was loaded and fired, causing a significant gunshot wound in the man’s leg.
The victim’s wife heard cries for help and called 911 immediately.
Officers arrived at the man’s home on Lincoln Street and applied a tourniquet to the man’s injured leg.
He was then transported to Baystate Hospital.
The firearm was seized pending further investigation and referral to licensing authorities.
