
A state Senate committee voted unanimously Tuesday to allow the North Carolina Department of Transportation to hike toll road late fees by 50%, to allow billboard companies to cut down more trees along the side of the road, and to extend deadlines for hundreds of millions of dollars worth of road construction projects.
The approval happened swiftly despite the sometimes-controversial nature of some of the proposals in the bill. No members of the public spoke about the bill, and none of the senators on the committee asked questions or made comments before voting to approve it.
