Police in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, have arrested a 65-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of fraud after he was unable to pay the bill for staying 80 consecutive nights at a hotel
According to police, the man checked in to the business hotel on Jan 5 and stayed there every night until April 4, broadcaster NTV reported. When he was asked when he would pay the 881,100 yen bill for accommodation and meals, he told the hotel management he was unable to.
The hotel called police. The man, who has no fixed address, was quoted by police as saying, “I thought I would be able to pay the money soon.’’ However, he did not say where he expected to get the money.
