
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) — The Charlotte-Douglas International Airport unveiled its new overlook, scheduled to open Friday morning.
The 600,000-square-foot space along Airport Overlook Drive has several attractions, including an airport-themed playground with ground support vehicles, a plane, and a control tower.
The chief infrastructure officer, Jack Christine, said that while the overlook is a place to watch planes, it is also a place to get kids excited about a future in aviation.
In addition to the playground, which includes runways for racing, there’s a retired US military fighter jet, an F4 Phantom II on display, a USAir Flight 1016 memorial at the overlook, and plenty of educational signage about aviation.
