
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WFOX/WJAX) – A fisherman in Florida caught what’s believed to be a 12-foot tiger shark off the coast of Jacksonville Beach.
Owen Prior and his friends went fishing last weekend near the Jacksonville Beach Pier about 400 yards out.
“One of my friends heard the reel going, and they were like, ‘Yo, Owen, you’re on,’” Prior recalled.
He knew the catch was heavy, but he didn’t realize what it was at first.
It took about 20 minutes to reel it in.
“Every step closer I took, she got bigger,” Prior said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission classifies tiger sharks as a prohibited species.
