
PORTAGE, Mich. — Officials from the City of Portage announced that two tornadoes touched down in the area Tuesday evening, causing severe property damage and the displacement of residents.
Damage to commercial and residential buildings, downed trees, multiple gas leaks, and power outages have been reported.
At this time, no serious injuries are being reported, according to the city.
For residents who have been displaced, officials said the Salvation Army has established two shelters:
- First Assembly of God at 5550 Oakland Drive (capacity: 100)
- Radiant Church at 995 Romence Road (capacity: 100)
Portage Mayor Patricia M. Randall has issued an emergency declaration from the State of Michigan and the federal government.
